Salesloft-Drift Breach: How a Single AI Chatbot Exposed 700+ Enterprise Customers
In August 2025, a state-sponsored threat group tracked as UNC6395 exploited vulnerabilities in Salesloft’s Drift AI chatbot platform to execute one of the largest SaaS supply-chain attacks in history. Over 700 organizations—including security industry leaders like Cloudflare, Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Proofpoint—had their Salesforce data compromised through stolen OAuth tokens.
What Happened
The Attack Timeline
March-June 2025: Attackers gained access to Salesloft’s GitHub account, downloaded repositories, and created a guest user account. They then pivoted into Drift’s AWS environment.
August 8-18, 2025: Using stolen OAuth tokens from the Drift chatbot integration, attackers systematically queried and exported data from more than 700 corporate Salesforce environments over a ten-day period.
August 20, 2025: Salesloft disclosed the incident, initially downplaying the scope.
August 26, 2025: Google’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) warned that hackers had used access tokens stolen from Salesloft to siphon large amounts of data from numerous corporate Salesforce instances.
August 28, 2025: Salesforce blocked Drift from integrating with its platform, Slack, and Pardot.
September 7, 2025: Through investigation with Mandiant, Salesloft confirmed the full extent of the attack.
How It Worked
Drift, acquired by Salesloft in 2024, is an AI-powered chatbot that integrates with customer systems via OAuth tokens. These integrations connect to:
- Salesforce (CRM data)
- Slack (communications)
- Google Workspace
- Various customer databases
When attackers compromised Drift’s infrastructure, they gained access to OAuth tokens that had been granted broad permissions across customer environments. Each token was a key to a customer’s kingdom.
